Billiani
Tango 700
A tribute to great Italian design, Tango is an ashwood coat-stand made of six poles twisted around a central joint. The joint was the starting point for Finnish designer Timo Ripatti; he followed the dictates of Scandinavian minimalism, and aimed not to use screws or fittings of any kind between the poles, which are milled and simply fitted together.

Billiani
We have produced wooden chairs in Italy for over a century, in a region of small specialized workshops where the culture of wood has deep roots.
The Billiani company was founded in 1911 to produce chairs in curved wood with caning. In 2019 Cristina Celestino, an architect and designer based in Milan, was appointed as the company’s artistic director. The chair is still a central focus, as is the material: wood, the true leitmotif of the collection.
Timo Ripatti
Timo Ripatti was born in Finland in 1967 and trained in architecture and industrial design. He leads Studio Ripatti in Helsinki and teaches furniture design at Aalto University and the Lahti Institute of Design and Fine Arts. His design language is sculptural and poetic yet functional, with a Scandinavian touch.
His Ellipse chair for Vivero won the SIO Furniture Award, and in 2010 he was named Finland’s Furniture Designer of the Year. For Billiani he designed Tango in 2015, an ash coat stand of six poles twisted around a central joint, a tribute to great Italian design.
