The B&B Italia 2019 collection introduces Pablo, a new seat by Vincent Van Duysen. Its strengths are comfort and firmness, which combine to form high-impact aesthetic and structural solutions. Pablo has a double thick leather layer with light seat padding which is barely visible but capable of ensuring comfort. The appealing shape is defined by an accentuated depth and a slightly inclined front: Pablo suggests new proportions, calibrated to the millimetre, which make this seat an innovative meeting point between small armchair and chaise longue. The structure wraps around the body and is suspended. It appears to be flying because it is simply fitted into the backrest and inserted into the armrests. The designer’s meticulous attention to detail found a true ally in B&B Italia Research & Development Centre which understands that the most essential products require a lot of work and special care. The result is noticeable in the constant play between the straight and curved lines, the relationship between the lightness of the wood, the strength of the raw-cut leather and the structural elements’ vertical shape being softened by a curved section. Like a suspended bridge or a flying carpet, this gentle object conceives a new visual and perceptive balance which is elegant and comfortable.

Vincent Van Duysen
Vincent Van Duysen was born in Lokeren, Belgium in 1962, and took a degree in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint - Lucas, in Ghent. In 1990 he opened his own studio in Antwerp, concentrating on the field of architecture. Most of his designs originate from his architectural projects, developing furniture from an architect's point of view which means starting from space rather than shape. His designs refer to primary forms or historical objects, redefining them in a contemporary way. The balance between shape and vision is an important aspect in his work as well as durability and functionality, comfort. However Vincent is not afraid of aesthetics, for him it is an essential part of de 'art de vivre', the emotional side of architecture. His furniture collaborations include the VVD collection for B&B Italia launched in 2002. The first monograph on his work was released in 2001 edited by GG Editorial in Spain, the second monograph released by Thames & Hudson in 2009.
