Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola has designed many iconic collections for luxury furniture brand B&B Italia, including the bestsellers Bend and Tufty-Time. For Husk, comfort and environmental sustainability were key to the collection that is a tribute to softness and relaxation thanks to the large quilted cushions inspired by the classic capitonné design. The hard shell is made of Hirek®, a special non-toxic plastic composed of recycled and recyclable polymers and available in multiple colours; the cushions come in three versions, with larger sizes on the seat and back; and the production process ensures that all components can be disassembled during the recycling process. When B&B Italia began producing outdoor furniture collections in 2007, Urquiola revisited Husk by exploring and experimenting with a different set of materials, developing the Husk outdoor collection that is now made entirely of recycled materials.
