Listone Giordano around the world…

Italian timber flooring brand Listone Giordano works around the world, with designers from Rafael Rivera in Mexico City to Patricia Urquiola in Milan, shaping interiors and exteriors defined by the raw beauty of natural timber. In the first of a series on the interior world of Listone Giordano, we look at a heritage refurbishment in Mexico City, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, Iceland’s Parliament Hotel in Reykjavik, the Fun House in Taipei and a Georgian renewal in Texas.

Guided by a single goal – perfection, Listone Giordano's story of Italian craftsmanship has contributed to the culture of wood as an integrated design element of the interior, the selection of wood on par with a form of art. Mexican architect Rafael Rivera who opened architectural firm Habitacion 116 in Mexico City with Javier Claverie, turned to Listone Giordano for the transformation of an historic townhouse built in Mexico City in 1800. Completely renovating the building and only leaving the original facade intact, the interiors unfold in timber on both floors and walls, their warmth embracing architectural detail described by Rivera as 'a succession of classic and contemporary poses.’

Fitting perfectly within the urban context of the city and the owner's didactic collection of furniture and works of art, the 300 square metre interior is what the architect describes as a 'modern-classic’, its characteristic finishes in timber and stone playing with light and volume. Featuring a special version of Heritage Civita with a steamed oak finish, Rivera selected a refined Hungarian fishbone pattern on the floor and random straight planks on the walls and ceilings, and for the roof garden thermotreated ash decking. ‘With Rafael it is always exciting and rewarding,’ remarks Alejandro Gibbon, Brand Manager, Listone Giordano, Mexico. ‘Being a designer with a strong personality, he is also very demanding and attentive. For a brand like ours, which focuses on design and speaks the language of beauty and fine quality, working with a professional such as Rivera always has added value.'

Involving the careful restoration and conservation of the original National Telephone House building, the Hilton group has returned an important heritage building to the city’s Austurvöllur Square along with contemporary new additions to create the Parliament Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland. Timber surfaces on the walls and floors are characterised by the elegant random Slide pattern from Listone Giordano's Natural Genius collection that plays a leading role across the interiors, with the geometric Foxtrot highlighting the suites designed by architect Paolo Gianfrancesco.

The renewal of a Georgian home in Houston, Texas, that was built in 1909, and was the first in the neighbourhood sitting at the end of the original tram line to the centre of Houston, today it is part of the bustling Montrose area. The Mirador Group transformed the gracious home, working closely with Listone Giordano on a selection of oak timbers from the Civita collection, with the main feature of the floors shaped by the textual Herringbone 55 design used throughout the interior.

Working with head chef Andreas Caminada of restaurant Igniv, the Milan-based designer Patricia Urquiola was inspired by its name that means ‘nest’ for the project that unfolds inside the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, Switzerland. Underlining the concept of nest with the mix and match of materials, Urquiola gave new life to the classic elements of the grand old hotel by using them in innovative ways. Wood is mixed with brass, and the texture of the Biscuit parquet from the Natural Genius collection desiged by Urquiola for Listone Giordano, creates a boiserie on the walls and a cosiness in balance with Caminada's kitchen philosophy of sharing. The architecture of the landmark Palais emphasises the atmosphere, its vaulted ceiling beautifully offset by the textured timber detailing and the room's warm tones of bordeaux, burgundy, brown and robin egg blue.

While for the Fun House in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, architecture practice Designer Lu was commissioned to design a relaxing and a ‘vacation-like atmosphere’ for an apartment building in the centre of the city. The public spaces consist of light finishes featuring a warm white scheme. The two columns connecting the living room and the dining room were inspired by the Casa Batlló stone pillars, and handcrafted solid camphor timber logs were sand blasted to retain the original rough texture of the wood. The Heritage Civita flooring was specified throughout the interior, its details inspired by the Mediterranean: abundant natural wood finishes to reflect the owner’s nature-loving personality, and, remarks the architects, 'allowing beautiful moments to perform in this spacious place'.

'Listone Giordano around the world' is an ongoing series that looks at the homes, restaurants, hotels, work spaces and architects inspired by the natural wonder of wood, and the luxury timber floors, wall and ceiling panels by Italian brand Listone Giordano.
