An interstate client, an award-winning interior, and a stunning art collection, were the bones of the brief for the latest project by Space Furniture’s bespoke styling and design service, Space Atelier.
Located in the Sydney suburb of Dover Heights, Space was engaged to style and furnish a house that responded to the new owner’s personality. Starting with their impressive art collection, the Space Atelier team first looked to the original interior with its luxurious tones and finishes, then carefully layered the design approach to express the personality and style of the client.
‘It was of the utmost importance that the beautiful interior designed by the team at YSG was respected,’ says Head of Interiors at Space Furniture, David Hartikainen. ‘In these areas our approach was delicate. The new owner’s brief then gave us the guidelines to work with the areas of the home that were not part of the original renovation.’
The Space Atelier team worked with the client remotely, drawing on Space Furniture’s extensive collection of international brands to find the perfect design pieces for every area. This included creating custom one-off lighting features with Brooklyn-based lighting brand Roll & Hill. The snug breakfast nook is anchored by dark, swirled dining chairs and an apricot toned table, and the cinema room adds fun and colour with the addition of a fluffy orange pouffe. In the guest room, textured green window finishes frame the garden and connect the upstairs area of the house to rooms below. While in the nursery, a striking tropical wall finish from Glamoura is a stand-out feature, bringing a bright flourish to a traditionally calm space.

Inspired by the client’s art collection that includes pieces by Helen Bard and Jonny Niesche, plush carpets from Tsar are used throughout, and geometric lighting and wallpaper from Phillip Jeffries were chosen to enhance the home’s beautiful architectural lines. The team also worked with luxury audio technology designers Bang & Olufsen to ensure that sound and audio were delivered to the client’s specifications, and brought in collaborative partners to assist with flooring, window dressings and wallpapers.
To achieve success an intimate rapport between the client and Space Atelier was essential. With a mission to tread between the client’s own style and the unique details of the existing interior, the Space Atelier team’s considered approach has ensured new spaces are in balance and enhanced through individuality, depth and impeccable design.
