Designed in 2015 by Bertjan Pot and Marcel Wanders, the Carbon Bar Stool is the new version of the iconic 2004-released Carbon Chair.
Super light and super strong, the collection is a collaboration between the two Dutch designers and an exercise in material experimentation. Paying tribute to the Eames Plastic Chairs designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames, the Carbon Bar Stool, or 'carbon copy', has longer legs and a shorter seat made from hand-coiled black carbon fibre and epoxy resin. The woven seat and finely detailed legs are completely self supporting, removing the need for a frame. The legs of the stool are attached to the seat with screws, the design's only metal components, and the random patterning of crisscrossed fibres provides both decoration and strength. The Carbon Bar Stool and Carbon Chair range continues the material typology of the Random Light collection developed by Pot and first launched by Moooi in 2002.
